GHANA'S INFLATIONARY BREAKDOWN

Ghana’s inflation story in 2025 is one of dramatic deceleration. In the 2025 Budget, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson set an ambitious end-year inflation target of 11.9 per cent. Several months later, inflation fell steadily from 23.8 per cent at the end of 2024 to just 5.4 per cent in December 2025, closing a 12-month streak of declining price growth.

But what does this statistical trend mean for ordinary Ghanaians at the market, at the cookstove, in transport queues, within household budgets, and for small businesses managing daily costs? Do the numbers on paper reflect real relief in wallets and balance sheets?

Checks by Citi Business News during the Christmas festivities showed relative price stability across local markets, with traders reporting marginal reductions in prices of selected items, including rice, eggs, and beverages.

THE DATA
Across 2025, monthly data showed a clear and persistent slowdown in headline inflation:
* Dec 24: 23.8%
* Jan 25: 23.5%
* Feb 25: 23.1%
* Mar 25: 22.4%
* Apr 25: 21.2%
* May 25: 18.4%
* Jun 25: 13.7%
* Jul 25: 12.1%
* Aug 25: 11.5%
* Sep 25: 9.4%
* Oct 25: 8.0%
* Nov 25: 6.3%
* Dec 25: 5.4%
Each figure marked a successive decline, bringing inflation comfortably below the Bank of Ghana’s target band.
The slowdown reflects easing pressures in both food and non-food prices, with food inflation — accounting for about 43 per cent of household spending — playing a dominant role.

THE EFFECTS ON HOUSEHOLDS
So what does this mean for households and businesses?

* More predictable grocery and operating costs
* Improved planning for small traders and wage earners
* Scope for lower interest rates and cheaper credit
* Uneven relief as transport and supply bottlenecks persist

Conclusion
Ghana’s 2025 inflation trajectory offers cautious optimism. Inflation has eased sharply, but for households and businesses, success will be judged not by percentages alone, but by consistently lower prices, stronger purchasing power and durable cost stability across markets.

  • CAPITAL EFFICIENCY REPLACING "GROW FAST" THINKING

    Capital Efficiency Is Reshaping How Investors Evaluate Companies

    Not long ago, a founder could walk into a pitch meeting with an aggressive growth story and a bold hiring plan and be met with enthusiasm.

    Today, those same slides often trigger a very different response. The first questions are no longer about how fast the company can scale, but about how carefully each dollar is being used and what concrete progress it creates.

    Capital efficiency has become a central filter in investment decisions. Investors want to understand how spending translates into outcomes, whether that is product readiness, customer adoption, or a credible path toward profitability.

    According to recent venture data published by KPMG, disciplined use of capital is now closely tied to which companies advance and which stall, particularly in early and growth stages.

    Why This Matters

    In a tighter funding landscape, capital is no longer evaluated in isolation. Every dollar is assessed for impact.

    For instance, teams that can clearly show how expenditure connects to progress tend to move forward more confidently in investor discussions, while vague growth narratives often raise concerns about execution and oversight.

    What Investors Expect to See

    Investors are paying close attention to how resources are deployed and measured, including:

    Burn multiple benchmarks and how they compare to realistic benchmarks.

    CAC and LTV that reflect real customer behavior, not projections.

    R&D spending that’s tied directly to product or revenue milestones.

    A clear view of how today’s spending supports tomorrow’s sustainability.
    What Founders Need to Question & Evaluate

    Before stepping into investor conversations, teams should take a hard look at:

    Areas where expenditure is not clearly linked to measurable outcomes.

    Headcount growth that outpaces revenue or customer traction.

    Milestones that consume resources without advancing the core business.

    Budget assumptions that rely on optimism rather than evidence.

    Field Story: When Capital Strategy Turned Skepticism Into Support

    A startup working with The Plan Writers had solid traction but struggled to explain why the size of its raise made sense. The story focused on runway, not results.

    We helped the team reframe their raise around a clear cash-to-milestone structure:

    Each major expense mapped to a specific delivery or revenue goal.

    Hiring phased based on validated demand rather than projections.

    Product spend tied to release timelines that investors could track.

    Capital requests aligned with what the next round would require.
    Once investors could see exactly how capital would be used and what it would unlock, the conversation became more constructive, and the round moved forward.

    Is AI the future or AI will still the future?

    As professor Joseph Stiglitz ( nobel prize laureate ) sees it, AI is not just another technology wave—it’s a force that can erode jobs and hardwire a new era of inequality. That is, unless governments and institutions deliberately push it in a different direction. how prepared are you for the great tech wave?

  • This painting of a young woman breastfeeding an old man in a prison cell sold for 30 million euros. The painting may seem perverse, but the story behind it is a historical record.

    The poor man was sentenced to "death by starvation" for stealing a loaf of bread during the reign of Louis XIV in France. The woman was his only daughter and the only visitor to his cell. She was allowed to visit him every day, but she was thoroughly searched, so that no food was taken.

    When the man was still alive four months later, having not lost any weight, the authorities were perplexed and began spying on her in her cell. To their utter astonishment, they found her breastfeeding her father, sharing her baby's milk. The judges, realizing the woman's compassion and love for her father, pardoned the father and released him.

    This piece of history highlights how deep a woman's compassion is in our daily lives, something that men often overlook.

    at the just ended world economic forum held in Switzerland ( davos),
    the prime minister of Canada made categorical statement blaming the US for using its position to bully less powerful countries including Canada itself.
    but the question when did Canada and the other European countries realized this ? MP Mark Carney made a profound statement that " if you're not on/ part of the table then you're the menu "
    In reality Africa has never had permanent seat on the UN's security council, never been part of the G7, the list goes on, where major security and and economic decisions are taken.
    it's simply means Africa has always been on the chopping board to the benefits of the high and mighty.

    one of the profound argument of president trump to annex Greenland was that they gave it to the Danish years ago after WWII, let's admit without accepting, can Russia also claim Alaska back ? what if China wants to reunite with Taiwan after all history backs the fact that Taiwan was part of mainland China, what prez Kim start to nurture the desire to unify Korea ? what if prez Putin wants to restore the old Soviet for proper boarder security and defense strategy....
    But Mr president the world stage is far bigger and volatile than boardroom of the Trump's tower. the continent is Soo interdependent to the extent that no country can start in isolation and survive not even the great USA. Rome was once great , Egypt was once great, the Persians once ruled the world. but one factor cut across their defeat, which pride. a wise man once said before the fall there is always an element of pride.

USA thrives on tech and innovation, China in manufacturing, gulf regions in crude and the list goes on. Ghana has been a hub for gold for centuries but gold exports was largely dependent on foreigners which denied the country of its full benefits. just as we are changing the narrative and handling things on our own through goldbod, all of a sudden IMF thinks our economy is gold sensitive. even if so we prefer it like that. it's better to be sensitive to gold than sensitive to nothing
